Jet Plane and Oxbow is here

Dear friends,

Today’s the day, at last – the release of our ninth studio album, Jet Plane and Oxbow.

lights in the rehearsal room

I’m writing from the rehearsal room in Austin where we’re getting the set together for the tours, with twelve days to go until the first show, and looking forward to getting back out again after more than a year off the road. Besides me, the touring band this time includes Lucas Oswald on guitar, Emily Lee on keys, Sadie Powers on bass, and Josh Halpern on drums. They’re beautiful and ferocious and you’ll meet them soon. (You can get a sneak preview at our Instagram account, which is mostly run by Emily.)

If we’re coming near you on the tour, please consider making the trek to see us; this show is going to be really special. (You’ll soon see why.) Tour dates are at right; ticket links on our tour dates page. Some shows are nearly sold out, so don’t wait too long.

If you didn’t pre-order the record but were thinking of buying a copy, you can still really help us (and increase the chance of us playing near you) if you buy it this week at your local record shop, or at Sub Pop, or at any retailer of your choice, rather than waiting till later. It’s the single best thing you can do for us.

This week also saw the release of a video for Quiet Americans, directed by Jarod Taber and Alex Rapine, with scenery-chewing by me and great, eerie performances by my friends Leah and Gabe Haberer. A few people have asked me if what happens in the video is real or an effect: the answer is, real.

Thank you. Enjoy the album. We hope to see you soon.
