“Just give ‘em the Grammy already” – GC

Our new album, Animal Joy, will be released by Sub Pop records on February 14, 2012 in the USA and Feb 27th in the rest of the world. It’s a very different beast (no pun intended) from the Island Arc albums, but we’re really happy with it. We recorded it in Austin with Danny Reisch [...]

Why I Love My (New) Home

Why I Love My (New) Home

Our promised big news at last: we’ve signed to Seattle’s Sub Pop records. We’re proud to be joining their excellent roster, and excited about the new album we start recording in a few short weeks. To celebrate, we’re releasing a couple of new items on our bandcamp page: The first is a set of live [...]

Looking Ahead

It’s springtime in Texas, and everything seems possible. For the first time in several years, we mostly sat out SXSW, though we’ll probably to be back next year – the only SW-related performance was a live soundtrack to some footage shot by Scottish filmmaker David Mackenzie on the remote island of Tristan da Cunha last [...]

The Island Arc Performance

The Island Arc Performance

On January 15th, 2011, Shearwater will present The Island Arc, the trilogy of albums that includes 2006′s Palo Santo, 2008′s Rook, and 2010′s The Golden Archipelago, in a single, complete performance at the beautiful Central Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. This will be a one-time-only event – we’ve never performed these thematically-linked albums in order, [...]

East for the Winter, New Sounds in Tow

East for the Winter, New Sounds in Tow

We’re prepping now for our upcoming East Coast tour with Damien Jurado. It’s taking us to some places we haven’t been in years, some that are entirely new (and long overdue). It’s also been long enough since the release of The Golden Archipelago that we’re taking first steps toward new recordings. I cranked up my [...]

October Surprises

In early October we’re going to be playing a pair of festivals – first, Matador’s 21st anniversary bash in Las Vegas, with a few bands you’ve heard of. Vegas seems like an illogical place to do almost anything, but when you figure that flights are relatively cheap from most cities in the US (to lure [...]

Willie and Waylon and Me

Willie and Waylon and Me

Before we head out to Europe again, we’re going to be playing a special benefit show on July 16th for our beloved Austin NPR station, KUT, in the Austin City Limits studio. Tickets are available here. We’ll be joined by some friends and longtime collaborators for this performance, and we’re going to play at least [...]

Lhude sing cuccu

Lhude sing cuccu

We’re easing into the Texas summer after an exhilarating first round of touring in the US and EU. Not that we’re putting ourselves out to pasture – there’s plenty coming up, both Golden Archipelago-related and otherwise. First off, we’re starting a new European tour in mid-July; we’ll be revisiting some of our favorite places and [...]

Road Movies

We’re packed and ready to head to the west coast in the morning after a week back home. It’s been good to see friends old and new, and to get a snapshot of northern Europe before the volcano and the eastern US in a gloriously rainy spring. Along the way we’ve done plenty of horsing [...]

“Hidden Lakes” Mini-Doc

We released a pair of videos for “Hidden Lakes” yesterday; you can find them here. But we also wanted to post an exclusive version of the video shot at JM’s house, in which he talks about the TGA and some of the travels that inspired it. If you look closely you can catch some footage [...]

Download The Golden Dossier

Download The Golden Dossier

The physical copies of the Golden Dossier are gone; that’s the bad news. But the good news is that we’re posting an electronic archive of much of it here; you can download a PDF and print a copy for yourself if you like.

The Golden Archipelago, our third album for Matador, has a release date: February 23rd in the US, and a week earlier (the 15th) in the rest of the world.

Gearing Up

Gearing Up

Back from Europe, and we’ve been putting the finishing touches on the album and artwork. We’re also plotting our first major US tour in a while, which will probably start in late March – and more Europe dates as well.

Men otemjej rej ilo bein anij

We enjoyed Barcelona and the Primavera festival back in May, along with our dates in the UK and northern Europe, to which we’re returning for a short run in September, including our first show in Leeds with our old friends Clinic.

Redbud Alerts

Redbud Alerts

I just came back from a few days in west Texas to find that the redbud tree in my front yard has decided it’s spring, which means the industry boondoggle known as SXSW is just around the corner. As usual, we’re playing a couple of shows, though keeping it a bit low-key this year as [...]
